Welcome to the premier issue of
Gardiner Design
the [ eye for design ] news

I'm back from my vacation in St. Croix, and I thought I'd start a newsletter to keep in touch with my clients and friends. I plan to do this on a bi-monthly schedule, or as news merits... so please email me me if you'd like to be removed from my newsletter list.

Debi sells photos & illustrations at
istockphoto.com [ the designer's dirty little secret ]

A few of you already know that I have ventured into the world of stock photography and illustration. I joined up with istockphoto in December 2003 attempting and make a little mad money from my photography addiction. A new digital camera and a trip to Greece lead to some exciting stock images, so I thought I'd give selling them "a shot".

For those who don't know about istockphoto.com, it's a very inexpensive source for quality stock imagery, including photography, vector artwork and flash files. I currently have over 125 images in my istock portfolio:
[ www.istockphoto.com/avante ] which include both photos and vector images, several of which been awarded the elusive "flames" for images with a minimum of 100 downloads.

A surprise under the covers of Guy Kawasaki's new book:
The Art of the Start

Guy Kawasaki sponsored a contest through istockphoto to create the cover design for his recently published book, and of course, I entered. The theme of my entry (shown to left) was a paint-by-numbers concept in which I combined and altered several photos to mimic the light blue lines and filled areas of a project in progress. With color names indicated in the blank areas such as "aim for the sky blue", and "sell what you know yellow"... I sent off my entry. Although not the winner, I was thrilled when Guy decided to use not only the winning entry, but to print all entries inside of hardcover's glossy jacket. So buy the book, (or see the inside book jacket here ) and see Gardiner Design in print once again.

Lisa Shea, owner
of bellaonline,
the second largest woman's website in the world, wanted a art deco style owl for her newly formed LLC and turned to Gardiner Design for this rendition.
Logo: Handworks Gallery

Owner Glenn Johnson wanted to change the logo he inherited when he purchased an upscale craft gallery several years ago. He loved the look achieved when Gardiner Design designed his website,
[ www.handworksgallery.net ] so that was our jumping off point for this new logo.

Debi Gardiner and Maureen Wolf awarded Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce website redesign project

Gardiner Design just celebrated it's 19th year in business, and first anniversary as a member of both the Blackstone Valley and Worcester Chambers of Commerce. A member of the BVCC's marketing committee, Debi has been involved in many print design projects for the chamber. The BVCC also wanted an updated website design, and after bidding against several other member webdesign firms the team of Gardiner Design and Wolf Web Systems was awarded the job. Currently in the final design phase, we will be presenting .php templates to the chamber so that the new design can be propogated throughout their current site of more than 100 pages. We'll keep you posted on the progress! And don't forget, Debi and Maureen are sharing office space, so interactive websites which include databases, e-commerce and user interfaces are just one call away.

Speaking of the BVCC, Debi lead their task force for an April community service Earthday 2005 Clean-up. You can read all about it at [ www.gardinerdesign.net/bvcc ]
